Joseph Atkinson has been impressing audiences with performances that showcase masterful musicianship and intense emotions.

Hailing from Butler, Pennsylvania, just 40 miles north of Pittsburgh, rising baritone Joseph Atkinson has built a strong relationship with music throughout the course of his life. Having sung throughout high school in choirs and musical theater, he developed a love and passion for performing music and seeing how music can inspire others.

Joseph traveled to Youngstown State University, where he pursued a Bachelor's in Music with a focus on Music Recording and Technology. During this time, he sharpened his musical technique through opera, where he eventually took on a debut role as David in L'amico Fritz.

While working as an audio engineer, Joseph returned to performance in the various musical groups in the Pittsburgh area. He then began his journey towards his Master's in Vocal Music Performance at Duquesne University, and he is set to graduate in the spring in 2026. During this short time, he has worked on many partial roles, such as Il Commendatoré in Don Giovanni as well as the title role in Billy Budd.

Joseph has also found time to work alongside the various opera companies in the Pittsburgh area. His most recent work in this space includes taking on the role of the Father for Pittsburgh Festival Opera's student outreach production of Hansel and Gretel.
